Foxconn, a global leader in electronics manufacturing, is in discussions with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility in the state. The Tamil Nadu government has offered approximately 200 acres of land for the proposed project, located near Manalur in the Tiruvallur district. This move is part of Foxconn's broader strategy to diversify its operations, with a focus on green energy and advanced manufacturing sectors. (Source: The Economic Times)

Foxconn Chairman Young Liu, during his visit to India in August, shared the company’s intent to expand beyond smartphones, focusing on sectors such as electric vehicles, energy and digital health. The "3+3 strategy" which highlights these areas, has been identified as crucial for Foxconn’s future operations. Tamil Nadu, recognized for its forward-looking policies, is also providing an incentive package for the BESS project, though details remain undisclosed. The discussions between the Tamil Nadu government and Foxconn are reportedly in the final stages, with an official announcement expected soon.

Foxconn’s global plans for BESS include the development of solid-state battery ecosystems for electric two-wheelers. The company’s first such unit in Taiwan is nearing mass production, despite delays caused by weather disruptions. The Tamil Nadu facility, if finalized, would be the second BESS unit worldwide for Foxconn, aligning with the company’s strategic energy storage, electric vehicles and green energy solutions. The project further strengthens both Tamil Nadu and India’s commitment to strengthening the innovation, sustainable industrial growth and advancing green energy initiatives.
