Maharashtra EV Policy 2025

On Tuesday, the Maharashtra government announced the Electric Vehicle Policy 2025 with an allocated budget of ₹1,993 crore over the next five years. The initiative aims to promote the adoption of electric vehicles, reduce carbon emissions and support sustainable transport across the state. The Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis approved the policy mentioning that increased EV manufacturing and usage will boost Maharashtra’s transportation infrastructure and environmental objectives.

A key feature of the new policy is the exemption of toll charges for electric four-wheelers and buses on three major expressways including the Mumbai-Pune Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Shivdi-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu and the Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg. Additionally, all electric four-wheeled vehicles will receive a 50 per cent toll discount on other state and national highways maintained by the Public Works Department.

The policy also offers comprehensive tax and fee exemptions. All electric vehicles registered and sold in Maharashtra will be exempt from motor vehicle tax, registration certificate fees and renewal charges. Purchase discounts valid through 2030 include a 10% discount on base prices for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, non-transport four-wheelers, State Transport Corporation buses and private or urban transport buses. A 15% discount applies to electric three-wheeler goods vehicles, transport four-wheelers, light and heavy electric goods vehicles, electric tractors and combined harvesting machinery.

To support the expanding electric fleet, EV charging stations will be installed at intervals of every 25 kilometers along state and national highways. It will be mandatory for new residential societies to incorporate EV charging infrastructure with occupancy certificates depending upon compliance. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik highlighted this requirement, stating that new housing developments without charging stations will not receive occupancy approval. These measures aim to build a strong support network for EV users and reinforce Maharashtra’s commitment to green mobility.
