Vishay Intertechnology has launched the AEC-Q100 qualified RGBIR color sensor, the VEML6046X00. It is compact and packed into a tiny 2.67 mm × 2.45 mm package with an ultra-slim 0.6 mm profile. This compact sensor is designed for automotive applications like display backlight control, infotainment systems, interior lighting, and heads-up displays.
It features a highly sensitive photodiode, a low-noise amplifier, and a 16-bit ADC, making it a great choice for automotive applications. What makes this sensor special is its ability to measure red, green, blue, and infrared (IR) light separately. This makes it perfect for calculating color temperature and keeping display colors balanced.
The green channel mimics human vision, while the IR channel keeps output stable in different lighting. It supports I²C communication and uses very little power when not in use. Additionally, with its high sensitivity (0.0053 lx/ct), it can still work even when placed behind dark cover glass.
Designed for automotive use, the VEML6046X00 can handle high temperatures up to 110°C and is perfect for applications like display backlight control, infotainment systems, dimming rearview mirrors, interior lighting, heads-up displays, mood lighting, and laser front light monitoring.
